Real Quick, Real Christmas Tree Tips
Ah, the Christmas tree. The centerpiece of your holiday decorations, a symbol of joy and cheer… until it starts shedding needles all over the floor.
Don’t let your Christmas spirit wilt along with your tree. Keep it spruced up with these tree tips from American Arborist.
1.
WATER WATER WATER
Think of your tree as a thirsty guest who just finished caroling. Keep a generous amount of water in the stand at all times. Aim for at least one gallon per inch of trunk diameter. And yes, check the water level DAILY!
2.
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
Location matters: Don’t banish your tree to the hottest room in the house. Keep it away from heat sources like fireplaces and radiators. And while we know it’s tempting, avoid placing your tree in a doorway or walkway where it can get bumped and jostled.
3.
KEEP IT COOL
Lowering the thermostat at night or placing your tree near a window can help keep it fresh and prevent needles from dropping.
4.
TRIM THE TRUNK
Unless you’re handy with a reciprocating saw, this may not be for you. But giving the bottom of the trunk a fresh cut about an inch above the previous one will allow it to absorb water more efficiently.
5.
DECORATE WITH LED LIGHTS
Traditional incandescent lights can dry out your tree a little faster. Opt for LED lights instead, which emit less heat and are much more energy-efficient.
With these simple tips, your Christmas tree will be the star of the show.
